Taking Care of Business part two

(Check out part one the next post down!)

I got tagged for a book meme by Jiente at Heaven in Belgium...

1. Pick up the nearest book ( of at least 123 pages).

2. Open the book to page 123.

3. Find the fifth sentence.

4. Post the next three sentences.

5. Tag five people. & post a comment here once you post it to your blog, so I can come see.

Secret Agent Mama has done it too, today, and she had some big thick book with actual radioactive information in it...

While I have fluff. Light fluffy fluff marshmallow creme reading to hand. All last week, I had Michelangelo and Italian history and travelogues -- stuff that would show I had some sort of depth and varied interests. Then it would have been from Michelangelo and the Pope's Ceiling, by Ross King:

An artist was, of course, only as good as his paints. Some of the best and most famous pigments came from Venice, the first port of call for ships returning from the markets of the Orient with exotic materials like cinnabar and ultramarine. Painters would sometimes arrange with their patrons to travel to Venice in order to the the necessary colors.
Interesting and informative and complex sentence structures. Lots of big words.

Wait! I am saved! It's not the fluff -- The Gatecrasher by Madeleine Wickham (who also wrote the Shopoholic series as Sophie Kinsella) which would have been:

"Why do you want to know?" he said, retaliating. "No reason." She took her hands out of her pockets and began to examine them.
A girl looking at her hands. Don't get me wrong, I love the fluff when life is stressful, but still, not impressive for this meme.

But it's not that! It's not the mindless fluff about hands. Instead it's a novel about the Civil War, I think, (I just started reading it today), On Agate Hill by Lee Smith:

Q. Of what did he make you?
A. Dust

Q. For what were you made?
Argh. This is a book about a girl orphaned by the Civil War. My sister loaned me the book and said she could not put it down. The first few chapters are interesting and full of good writing... and page 123 is Infant Catechism and a list of questions like these (from a girl's diary, I think. I haven't read this far yet...). Oh, well. Cannot always look like a well-read, well-informed person, I guess...

So now I am tagging the first five blogs on my blogroll...

Donna at a grownup really?
Dawn at Alex Year One
Mike at an analog guy in a digital world (ha.)
Biddy at Biddy's World
Rhonda at Foster Me Up

That's it...
