Weekly Winners....Fur Rondy Edition

Weekly Winners courtesy of the Sarcastic Mom!

It's been an exciting weekend here in Anchorage. Thursday night we had a moose visit...

Moose!

Moose!

The whole story, complete with the dog trying to protect us from this moose, is here.

It's also Fur Rondy time -- The Anchorage Fur Rendezvous celebrates Anchorage's history. We went downtown today, to watch the sled dog races and check out some of the other events.

A musher about to cross the finish line.

Dogs pulling.

fur rondy
Musher. If you look closely, you can see that his right foot is off the sled. He is pushing along with his foot as the dogs race toward the finish line.

A race to the finish.

The dogs looked like they were having a really good time.

Waiting for the hatchet, machete, saws, shovels, picks, and creativity.

fur rondy
Ready for a long day of hacking and sculpting and chopping.

fur rondy
Most interesting and unique sculpture. (I think it is modeled on some kind of fruit or vegetable, like in the photo on the sign in front.)

fur rondy
It was snowing pretty heavily all day.

Snow building up on Tess.

fur rondy
Fur auction. I have never seen so many fur hats.

fur rondy
The carnival. First time I have ever been on a Midway in the snow...

fur rondy
Thor and Tess went on the Ferris Wheel. There is a guy hanging off the thing pounding on a wheel with a hammer. I don't know why, but it made Mark and I a little nervous. Thor and Tess thought the ride was great.

Heading back to the car.

fur rondy
Thor throwing himself down the hill so I can take a photo. What a guy.

I shoveled the drive. I hope Mark wasn't planning to use his Jeep before the snow plow clears our street...(also, you can see our dogs watching us in the living room window.)

Mark removing the pile of snow in front of the Jeep. Guess he thought he might want to use it.

Lots of snow. No snowplow yet.

And finally, last Sunday we took the Suburban through the car wash. (Everything is grimy and filthy, because we had some warmer weather...lots of slush and muck.)

  5. Wow, a moose! And to think I run and grab the camera when there is a possum on the deck.

Love the dog sleds ... and I don't even want to think about riding a ferris wheel in the snow!

    Love all the shots.
The ice sculptures are fantastic. I wish I had one of those furs keeping me warm right about now.
I would have freaked about the carnival ride in the snow. I don't trust those things on warm days.

  9. Love the shot of Tess watching the sled race. The expression on her face is so pleasant.

The shot of the family headed back to the car is great. Nice angle.

And I would have been a wee bit concerned if I had seen the guy working on the ferris wheel too.

F.A.N.T.A.S.T.I.C.... The capitals were for Thor throwing himself into the snow, just for you...

and of course for our viewing pleasure as well.. hehehehe

I really like the last shot as well but there is just something about the teeny snowflake on Tess' glove, which I really like as well. and then there is the one of your dog in the window. Oh, and did I mention that I like the moose and and and, well I think you get the idea...

  14. I think that sculpture/photo was a fruit called something like a buddah hand. I saw one at the store once but didn't buy it because it was TEN DOLLARS.

The pic of the glove with the snow flakes - those flakes look like they're totally fake, I am AMAZED at the design of them, it's freaking unreal.

Never seen a snowy midway before either, that is pretty cool. These pictures are SO GOOD!

You like me! You really really like me!

Or maybe you just find me horribly annoying and are about to let me know. Go ahead, I can deal.

So, whatever, you know, leave a message. Thanks!!!
